Wow, Now That's Different! By Dawn Chafe Atlantic Business Magazine, November 2006 It's one thing to talk the talk, but it's a lot harder to walk the walk. In this article, Atlantic Business Magazine doesn't just say there are no limits on the jobs women can do, we prove it. The following profiles showcase 10 Atlantic Canadian women whose jobs are distinctly out of the ordinary. How did we find them? It was an amazing experience that started with a simple call for help to our Community Editorial Advisory Board (you can join too, go to www.atlanticbusinessmagazine.com to sign up) and to each province's womens' business association. Little did we suspect the deluge that would soon be directed our way. They came at us from everywhere, from Labrador City to Matane and all points in between. Literally hundreds of them, with inspiring tales of healers, teachers, consultants and designers. They told of artisans and engineers, caregivers and manufacturers. And while many of the jobs overlapped in terms of responsibility or industry, each one of the women they described was a unique, accomplished, passionate individual. They all had a story to share and a lesson to teach. While just 10 of these women are featured here, we proudly dedicate this article to all of the remarkable women who are helping to grow and develop the Atlantic economy. Pam Allen-LeBlanc, P.Ag Age: 38 Job: Vice President Sales, Precision Metal Works Ltd. & Precision Nuclear Inc. Location: Mactaquac, NB "Probably what makes my job extraordinary is that it allows me to work with both my science degree and my MBA. From a scientific perspective, who else do you know who gets to work with some of the top physicists, nuclear scientists and engineers in the world? I get to work with many of the U.S. national laboratories on their ground-breaking research, with solar companies who have developed revolutionary technologies which allow us to harness more energy from the sun with a more environmentally sound process than was ever previously available, with nuclear scientists who have created one of the safest nuclear reactors in the world, producing energy without greenhouse gasses. The work most of my clients do is fascinating. And I get to meet with them and bring it home to my production team in New Brunswick."
